The Southwest Homes Experience

The Southwest Homes Experience

What is the most important step in building a new house from the ground up? Most would say: “Choosing the right home builder.”

Constructing a new house is an enormous and not to mention, a multifaceted undertaking, so it’s important to find custom home builders that you can trust to bring your vision to life.

“It was really important to find a builder that went with what I really wanted and to bring life to my dreams,” said Michelle Baumert. “And it was really important for me to find a builder that wasn’t going to push me in a different direction.”

From the start, Baumert’s mom and step-dad helped in the search to find the right builder for their daughter.

“I sat down with several people  and they were either really highly priced or they seemed like they were trying to push me in a different direction, which is what I didn’t want. But then when my mom and step-dad met with Jason and Ernie the for the first time, they were both like, ‘I really like them, so I think you should go with them!’ and so — I just went with my gut,” Baumert said.

Baumert previously owned a home in Spring, Texas. Since moving to the Brazos Valley, she’s had the urge to build her first home, but admits the process seemed overwhelming and intimidating.

“You hear horror stories.” Baumert said.  “But with Southwest Homes it was much different. Ernie, Nancy, Jason and Caleb have all been so helpful through everything.  I was so stressed out thinking, ‘How am I going to organize all of this and how am I going to know how much to spend here or there, and where can I splurge?’ And Nancy was so wonderful with all of that.”

Meanwhile Mike Grant and his wife live up north and were searching for a custom home-builder to turn their dream home into a reality.

“I heard a few references from some people that had built homes with Southwest Homes and so I looked online and made a phone call to Ernie,” said Mike Grant, who hired our team to build a vacation home in Franklin, Texas. “I was just totally impressed with Ernie’s customer service attitude and it was nice talking with someone who had such good ideas and could really visualize where I was trying to go with it.”

Word of mouth is one of the most critical and valuable tools as a home-builder. It is one of the reasons we take such great pride in the experience our clients have with our team.

“We went to six different houses in the Parade of Homes and out of every builder that we spoke to, Southwest Homes was really the one and only builder that stood out,” said Michelle Morris. “ If the house fell down around us, I know he {Jason} would be the first one here.”

The Morris family truly has a unique story.  In June of 2016, Brandon and Michelle said, “I do” on a piece of land they fell in love with. As fate would have it, the acreage in Grimes County came up for sale and the couple jumped at the opportunity to purchase their dream property. By April of 2018, the Morris family will be moving in to their forever home that our team has begun building right where they stand.

“I can’t wait to sit on the back patio and relax without hearing neighbors or cars,” said Michelle Morris. “I am also ready to make memories and watch the kids grow up in the house.”

“We didn’t start with a plan. We had a vision of what we wanted that was just bits and pieces of different homes,” Grant said. “Again, I got a comfort level throughout the design process. They would do sketches that captured what I was looking for and it was pretty amazing when you take that leap and say, ‘Ok, we’re going for it! And we’re not quite sure what we’re going to get!’ but when you see everything coming together, I mean, we were just really pleased. They captured what we were trying to do as unique as it was!”

Although a construction job is never without surprises and challenges, a home builder who is a good fit for your specific project will make the experience far easier to manage and handle from the get go. Southwest Homes owner, Jason LaFollette knows this first hand and says transparency and communication are key during the entire process.

Every client and every home is unique. With that said, we want each build and project to be an “experience”.  That experience should be as unique as the client and one they would want to do over and over again with us — and also —  an experience they cannot wait to tell others about.

A good custom home builder has skills that go far beyond construction — he or she must supervise subcontractors and artisans; keep tabs on local zoning regulations, building codes and other legalities; inspect work for problems along the way; and perform dozens of other roles that are essential in building a quality home.

“I would absolutely recommend Southwest Homes — no question,” said Grant. “One of the biggest concerns we had, since we were a long way from home from here, was that we really needed someone that would communicate with us openly, and of course, a builder that we could got comfortable with. Communication was key for me and as I interviewed different builders, I needed a comfort level that they were going to keep us in the loop and that I could trust they were going to do what they were going to do, since we don’t live here in the state. They were fantastic in that standpoint. When doing this, that was huge as value for my wife and I.  So yes. Absolutely we would recommend them.”

Home-builders are responsible for ensuring that the home-building project sticks as closely as possible to the specified timetable, particularly in the event of change orders. Custom and luxury home builders also need interpersonal skills to deal with clients of all types, soothe frazzled nerves, negotiate conflicts and resolve problems.

“They’ve truly helped me through this whole process and have made it wonderful. It’s such a beautiful home,” Baumert said. “They are wonderful. I’m going to miss talking to them every day. They are truly wonderful.”
